The master cylinder is a last resource for stopping in case both braking systems brake down. The braking power is not enough to slow down the car under normal driving conditions. It was removed from on later cars after chassis number 30001.

The master cylinder is mounted in the brake actuation box connected directly to the brake pedal. When the brake pedal is pressed fluid under pressure is sent through a one way valve to the lower pistons in the rear calipers activating them. The fluid comes directly from the reservoir and provides a small amount of brake power.
