A tribute to the Continental Supersports, as it wraps up 14 years to make way for the next new Continental model

The new Continental Supersports model is the last hurrah for the car that has done more than any other to transform the modern image of Bentley. Ironically, when the Continental is finally replaced with a completely new model after an impressive 14 years (the current car is second generation in name but actually shares a substantial amount of engineering with the original 2003 machine), it will no longer sit at the top of Bentley’s sales charts. That honour will instead have passed to the Bentayga, the brash but capable SUV that currently cueing up a massive change in company fortunes.

“Electrification is the way forward—and there will be no in between steps for us like hybridization,” Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Otvös told the British publication. “It is the propulsion system for the future, make no error. There is a time—nobody can predict when—when there will be no combustion engines. That will take a long, long time, but it will happen.”

Owner age for a Rolls-Royce steadily decreasing beating both BMW & Mercedes at appealing to a younger audience

Speaking to Bloomberg, Müller-Ötvös said ,”we are seeing, in that segment of ultrahigh-end-growth individuals, a fast decrease in average age. It’s fantastic, it really is.” As it turns out, the global average age of a Rolls-Royce customer is 45 years old, which is significantly lower from 56 years (seven years ago).

That is lower than the average age of car buyers overall (52 years old), referring to data by Kelley Blue Book, which also pins the average age of luxury car buyers at 50 years old. Rolls-Royce’s average new-buyer age is also lower than that of Mercedes-Benz (51 years old) and BMW (50 years old).

Rolls-Royce exhibits the Great Eight Phantoms including Lennon's colorful Phantom V

When Rolls-Royce opens their exhibition at Bonhams, called "The Great Eight Phantoms," John Lennon's personalized Rolls-Royce Phantom V will be in attendance.

The special guest appearance coincides with the 50th anniversary of the release of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," which never really gets old anyway.

It's not some dreary, old luxury machine, either. It's a colorful tribute to the iconic record and was commissioned by Lennon in 1967.

Spied testing disguised close-to-production Rolls-Royce SUV 'Cullinan' in Europe

Development of the first-ever Rolls-Royce SUV is advancing fast: the firm has now been spied testing disguised close-to-production cars in Europe – giving an indication as to just how imposing it’s set to be. There’s certainly no disguising its huge upright grille, nor the fact it’s going to join other Rolls-Royce in featuring rear-hinged ‘suicide’ doors (despite Rolls' attempt at mocking up rear doorhandles beneath the disguise).

More on the vegan 'mushroom' interior option being considered by Bentley

When Bentley Motors announced that it was looking into developing interiors for its vegan millionaire customers at the Future of the Car Summit in London in May, it nudged the term “mushroom leather” further into the design lexicon. Otherwise known as muskin – a term coined by Italian textile developer Grado Zero Espace – this leather-like material is made from spores extracted from the upper button or “hat” of the Phellinus ellipsoideus mushroom.

Teaser image of the Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII silhouette

While the styling is clearly evolutionary rather than revolutionary, and rightly so for the company’s flagship limousine, it’s clear that the rectangular headlight clusters are narrower than those of the outgoing model (probably LED or laser-powered) and, if the picture’s details are accurate, the protruding driving lights of the outgoing model have been done away with.
